Gonna legit use this blog now...
One thing I’m a real sucker for is home decor, it’s the one
thing you can do to make a room yours. Not going to lie whenever I play the
sim’s you can guarantee I will spend more time decking out houses than playing
with the actual family’s. (although killing off the Sims comes a close second …
hehe ಠﭛಠ)
Anyways I've recently acquired more cushions so of course
they have to be covered! This is how you flower pound to make a dye impression
on fabric:
1.The fabric here is just a plain calico as its thin enough for the leaf juice(?) to penetrate through.
2.I’m not 100% sure if this steps needed but whatever its just masking off a border but seeing as its being seamed together eventually anyway...
3. Choose your leaves/flowers! This is where you really need to experiment not all plants give a great pigment or will spread the way you want, I’ve found waxy leaves are mostly a no go. Here are some leaves from the butterfly bush in the garden, I like these ones as they grow in so many sizes and give the colors that I want for my room. ( Oh, your also going to want to experiment on which side of the leaf will face with the fabric))
4.Compositions, compositions
5.Now here comes more masking tape, tape all that shit down. I find it easier to tape down the middle of the leaf down first just a personal preference I feel it helps the leaf to sit flatter so you don't get some weird shape when it transfers.
6.Didn’t know how to take a picture of this step L But this is where you get a literal hammer and smash it into the leaves making sure you hit every bit of the plant to release the pigments. Only smash the hammer into a surface your okay that could get damaged, but is also smooth otherwise you will distort the shape of the fabric. I tend to place a book on top of a slab in the garden. ( which is now stained green)
7.After its all crushed and all your anger is gone just peel off all the tape.
8.Just rub off all that gummy residue you don’t need it. Also notice that smell??
Here’s the finished product the ‘wrong’ side (on the left)
And the side the leaves were taped to ( On the right)
I’m really pleased at how these came out and it didn't even
take more than an hour, both sides are so usable!
